14 Days Gorilla trekking safari in 3 countries including Congo Rwanda and Uganda coupled with wildlife viewing and chimps tracking adventure to the best parks in Uganda
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative who will brief you shortly about your Rwanda Safari. After the briefing, you will be transferred to Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri. This is a 3 hours drive from the city center. Upon arrival, you will check in into your lodge and then take a short community tour around Ruhengeri for a good cultural experience of a true Rwandan culture. Dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House (Budget)/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid range)/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla tracking
After breakfast, you will transfer to the Park headquarters at 7:00am for a briefing from the ORTPN Ranger guides. After this, you will be accompanied by your ranger guide and start your trek into the forest to search for the habituated Mountain Gorilla family allocated to your group. You are reminded to bring with you packed lunch and bottled Mineral water. In terms of clothes, trekking boots, long sleeved shirts and blouses, rain coats, and Cameras are highly recommended for the trek. The time you will spend in the forest searching for the Gorillas is not predictable as it depends on where they spend the last night. Once you come across the Gorillas, all the troubles you have gone through to reach them will be easily forgotten and instead utilize the1 hour you have with them to get a great experience. You can observe them in terms of behaviors as well as taking photographs. Return to the lodge for refreshments, dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House (Budget)/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid range)/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)
Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking/Dian Fosse’s grave
After breakfast, you will go for the trekking of the Golden Monkeys in the Virunga forest. Alternatively, you can trek the Dian Fossey’s grave and also visit her research center at Karisoke where you will learn a lot about her work in the area. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House (Budget)/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid range)/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)
Day 4: Transfer to Gisenyi town – Lake Kivu Tour
After breakfast, you will leave Ruhengeri and proceed to Gisenyi town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu which is the main fresh water body in Rwanda. Upon arrival, have lunch and after you can take an optional boat ride on the lake to the closest islands to discover unspoiled places and sceneries. The ride will also offer you beautiful views of the Nyiragongo Volcano in Congo which is the only still active volcano in East Africa having last erupted in 2002 and is also popular for its fluid lava (Lava Lake). Alternatively, you can relax on the beach as you wait for your dinner and overnight stay at L. Kivu Serena Hotel (Luxury) / Malahide Hotel (Mid range) Stipp Hotel (Budget)
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali for a cultural tour
After breakfast, you will transfer back to Kigali for a city tour and visit places like the cultural and traditional sites such as the handicraft markets, the local markets, the museum and the Genocide memorial and the education center. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Hotel des Mille Collines (Luxury), Strippe Hotel Biz (Mid-range)
Day 6: Transfer to Khauzi Biega.
In the morning, you will set of to Khauzi Biega NP in Bukavu, crossing via Cyangungu boarder. You will reach Khauzi Biega in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Orchids Hotel.
Day 7: Lowland gorilla tracking.
In the morning, you will go for lowland gorilla tracking, enjoy the gorillas feed in the forest and take photography. Return to the lodge for relaxation and later return to Kigali for your dinner and Overnight.
Day 8: Transfer to Uganda and then to Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you will cross the Rwanda- Uganda Border and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The journey will offer you with sights of the beautiful terrain of the rolling hills with terraced landscape of the Kigezi sub region. Upon arrival at Bunyonyi, have lunch and later carry out an afternoon boat ride on the lake which will reward you with sights of different birds on the many small islands on this lake. It was upon this great bird population that the lake was named Bunyonyi which means many small birds. L. Bunyonyi was formed as a result of the volcanic lava blocking the river at the present day Muko, forming a wide dam. The lake is the deepest in Uganda and 2nd in Africa. Day 9: Third Gorilla tracking adventure Uganda
After early breakfast, we shall proceed to park offices with packed lunch for a briefing about the Dos and Don’ts while with gorillas. Tracking can take 2-8 hours depending on their movements. Tracking involves walking up steep and densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. You will stay with these Giant apes for 1 hour for observation and photographing. Relax in the evening as we wait for dinner and overnight stay at Bakiga Lodge/ Wagtail eco lodge, Gorilla Mist/Nshongi Gorilla resort, Gorilla safari lodge/Gorilla resort.
Day 10: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park
In the morning, you will set off to QENP passing via Ishasha sector where you will have game drives to view tree climbing lions, variety of bird species. Reach the park early enough for lunch. In the afternoon, gather at the Kazinga channel for a boat cruise along the channel where you will be rewarded with view of game as Hippos, crocodiles, buffalos, elephants as well as a variety of birds. Dinner and overnight at Budget: Kingfisher Lodge, Mid-range: Enganzi Lodge, Luxury: Mweya safari lodge.
Day 11: Game Drive & Launch Cruise
Today wake up early for your breakfast and then go for game drive with a rewarding opportunity to see wildlife such as Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, Topis, Bush bucks and many more. Return to your lodge for lunch, enjoy the unique 2-hours launch cruise on Kazinga Channel. This trip will pass through possibly the highest concentration of Hippos and many animals that may be seen drinking at the water’s edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing
Day 12: Head to Murchison Falls
Drive northwards to Murchison Falls National Park after breakfast. The park is located in the north-western part of the country. This charming drive will pass you through the famous battle zone of the Luweero Triangle. You will have a lunch stop over at Masindi town and then proceed to the Murchison Falls, the most beautiful falls on the river Nile. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge, Sambiya River Lodge and Red Chili Rest Camp.
Day 13: Game drives and a boat cruise
After breakfast, go for a morning game drive on the southern banks of the river. The morning drive will take you through different habitats. On the drive, you will clear to see different animals which include giraffes, Hartebeest, Elephants, Bushbucks, Lion, Jackal and many others. After lunch, you will carry out a launch cruise and will view concentration of Hippos on the banks of the river. For the birders, a variety of birds will be present such as the Pel’s Fishing-Owl, king fishers. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge, Sambiya River Lodge and Red Chili Rest Camp .
Day 14: Chimpanzee tracking and a return to Kampala
Depart from the park and head to Kampala. Along the way, you will carry out a chimpanzee tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi Forest with in Budongo Forest. You will have an overnight at Cassia Lodge or Holiday Express Hotel.
