Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative who will brief you shortly about your Rwanda Safari. After the briefing, you will be transferred to Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri. This is a 3 hours drive from the city center. Upon arrival, you will check in into your lodge and then take a short community tour around Ruhengeri for a good cultural experience of a true Rwandan culture. Dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House (Budget)/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid range)/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla tracking
After breakfast, you will transfer to the Park headquarters at 7:00am for a briefing from the ORTPN Ranger guides. After this, you will be accompanied by your ranger guide and start your trek into the forest to search for the habituated Mountain Gorilla family allocated to your group. You are reminded to bring with you packed lunch and bottled Mineral water. In terms of clothes, trekking boots, long sleeved shirts and blouses, rain coats, and Cameras are highly recommended for the trek. The time you will spend in the forest searching for the Gorillas is not predictable as it depends on where they spend the last night. Once you come across the Gorillas, all the troubles you have gone through to reach them will be easily forgotten and instead utilize the1 hour you have with them to get a great experience. You can observe them in terms of behaviors as well as taking photographs. Return to the lodge for refreshments, dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House (Budget)/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (Mid range)/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking / Dian Fossey Hike
After an early breakfast, you will gather at the park head quarters for briefing before heading for the golden monkey tracking in this light forest. You will have to hike the volcanoes before catching a glimpse of these playful monkeys. You may alternatively choose to hike to Dian fossey’s tomb to learn about her conservation efforts in this area. After tracking, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation at your lodge (Day 2)
Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Uganda where you will drive on through the magnificent scenery of Kigezi whilst enjoying fascinating views of the rolling hills adorned with terraces. You will arrive in Queen Elizabeth in time for lunch before taking an afternoon boat cruise along Kazinga channel that connects lakes George and Edward. The 2 hours cruise will reward you with sights of crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, elephants and several species of antelopes that always throng the channel’s banks for water in the afternoons. You are likely to see a variety of bird species including the pelicans, kingfishers, African skimmer, and African fish eagle among many others. Return in the evening to check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight at Mweya safari lodge (luxury) / Enganzi Lodge (mid range) / Kingfisher lodge (budget)
Day 5: Morning Game drive and after noon Nature walk
Take an early cup of coffee and head for a rewarding game drive along the Kasenyi area expecting to see a cross section of the park’s 100 mammal species as well as its burgeoning list of 607 bird species. You are likely to see elephants, kobs, gazelles, buffaloes, water bucks, reed bucks, bush bucks and a variety of carnivores as they return from their night hunt including lions, leopard, jackals, and spotted hyenas among others. You will then return to your lodge for a late breakfast and later have your lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a nature walk to Karinzu forest where you will be rewarded with sights of birds, primates like chimpanzees and several monkey species as well as the blue lake and the bat caves that are home to the popular rock pythons. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at (Day 4)
Day 6: Transfer to Kibale forest National Park
After your breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Kibale forest National park popular for its primate population. The forest is home to over 13 primate species including man’s closest relative the chimpanzee. You will reach in time for lunch and then proceed to track the primates in the afternoon. Your trek may be graced with sights of other primates like the red, black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed, blue and vervet monkeys among others. Forest animals like elephants, buffaloes, forest hogs, bush duikers and bush pigs among others may also be encountered while on the trek. You will then return to check in at your lodge, Primates lodge (luxury)/ Kibale Forest camp (mid range) / Chimpanzee guest House (budget).
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali / Entebbe and Departure
After an early breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Kigali to connect with your flight back home or spend a night in any of the hotels. You may as well fly out through Entebbe airport which is closer to Kibale than Kigali. You long day’s journey will reward you with sights of plantations and terraced hills of Kigezi sub region as you traverse the verdant country side.
